Door & Access Control

Access control and door control are often used interchangeably, but there’s a subtle difference. Access control is the broader term, referring to the overall system for managing who can access a specific area. Door control, on the other hand, specifically focuses on managing access at a single door. In essence, door control is a component of a larger access control system.

This is a comprehensive system that regulates access to an entire building or facility, or specific areas within it. It can utilise various methods, like key cards, fobs, PIN codes, or even biometric scanners to verify authorised users. Access control systems often include features like audit trails to track who entered and exited specific areas, according to Allday Time Systems.
Door Control:

This is a more specific application of access control, focusing solely on managing entry through a single door. Door control systems typically include an electronic lock, a reader for authorised credentials (like key cards or fobs), and potentially a communication system (like an intercom).

Think of it this way: an access control system might manage access to an entire building, while door control would be responsible for allowing authorised individuals to enter specific doors within that building.
